An
understanding of network and VoIP performance
is a key factor in troubleshooting.
Network Instruments solutions provide
visibility into the network, application,
and VoIP traffic to quickly resolve
issues. Observer’s VoIP Expert
provides summary views to easily understand
VoIP network health. Over 70 VoIP-specific
metrics, like call quality, can be
tracked on an aggregate or per-call
basis. In troubleshooting, there are
over 50 Expert events for immediate
problem identification. Once an issue
has been identified you can drill-down
on specific conversations for an in-depth
view.

Forensics |
The
forensics capabilities of the Network
Instruments GigaStor™ allow managers,
through retrospective network analysis,
to quickly diagnose and resolve network
problems. GigaStor operates like a
security camera, recording everything
traversing the network and storing
up to 48 TB of packet-level data for
future analysis. After learning of
a problem, network managers can isolate
the period around the event and replay
and review all network activities that
occurred during that time. GigaStor
can also reconstruct e-mails, file
attachments, IMs, and VoIP calls.

| NetFlow
is a Cisco-created traffic reporting
mechanism that device manufacturers have
embedded into devices such as routers
and switches. NetFlow tracks statistics
per “flow” where a flow is
defined as a routed traffic stream passing
between a pair of addresses on a particular
port. It then pushes this data to a collector
such as a Network Instruments Advanced
Expert Probe. NetFlow and sFlow® has
been fully integrated into the Observer
platform. This ensures the same solution
used for comprehensive analysis, such
as measuring application performance
and obtaining real-time VoIP metrics,
now displays statistics on NetFlow and
sFlow® data.

Analyst: Mapping, Discovery, Routing |
| Link
Analyst is a network monitoring solution
that provides powerful reports, inventory
capabilities, configurable alarms, active
discovery, and device and route mapping.
Link Analyst provides insight into the
devices on your network and the routes
that connect them and is ideal for small
to mid-sized businesses, though it can
handle networks of any size. Using active
discovery, the program locates and identifies
devices on the network and allows you
to build visual maps, view preset or
custom monitors using SNMP and WMI data,
produce real-time and trending reports,
and be notified of anomalies based on
thresholds you configure. |
